Glossaries

Communications industry representatives use a language that many of us have never heard.  We are hesitant to ask someone to explain what 18 GHz means, or What is a PCO?

To facilitate the communications process and enhance the education of MDU property owners/managers, small property owners seeking to make changes in who provides their service, and folks who just want to know what is an Analog Decoder, IMCC is please to make available two glossaries of terminology for your use.

Technical Glossary provided by Steve Shockman, Vern Swedin, and Kent Whitney of Pace Electronics.  These are technical terms generally used by engineers and designers of Private Communications Systems.

Basic Glossary.  This glossary, in addition to technical terms – ATM, Analog/Digital, and HFC – also contains explanations about Bureaus at the FCC, MDU Inside Wiring Rules, citations on court cases – Gulf Power and Loretto – and the communications alphabet soup that many of us are familiar with – MDU, HDTV, and OVS.

The definitions contained in both of these glossaries are a starting point.  In an effort to keep current, you are invited to submit additional terms and definitions for inclusion.
